Eastern Shawnee Tribal Housing Authority

Eastern Shawnee Tribal Housing Authority

Welcome to the Eastern Shawnee Housing Authority! Our Housing Authority’s mission is to help low-income, Native American families, achieve homeownership. Many of our low-income families could not do this on their own. We assist them in making the dream of home ownership a reality by educating them on home ownership, the responsibility of owning a home and becoming creditworthy.

Located in rural Wyandotte, OK, the Eastern Shawnee Housing Authority was developed in 1999 and is one of the smallest Native American Housing Authorities in the U.S. We began with only 12 houses but quickly built 3 more in the coming years. Recently, we have conveyed 7 of them to their property owners. Now, it’s our job to replace those seven houses so that more families can enjoy homeownership. Proudly serving the “Four State Area” (Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas), we look forward to our new expansion and assisting many others in the joy of home ownership.

Our Purpose

Our master plan is to help develop our 40 acres of fee simple land and build the infrastructure necessary to support new houses. With community and individual assistance, we can immediately begin on our planned 7 homes and have them ready for families within 5 years time. We also look to build one safe house for our community, along with building or acquiring a domestic violence safe home as well.

Not only are we looking to grow our community here at the Eastern Shawnee Housing Complex, we also look to expand and purchase existing homes within the Four State Area, that meet our requirements and guidelines, to help better serve our tribal community and surrounding communities.

Our Board of Directors have been hand selected to maintain the integrity and vision of the Housing Authority and our mission. Our members range from tribal professionals to residents of the housing authority. Each bringing their own unique wisdom and skills to better serve our community.
